Modular transformer platform

Project management during the construction of a modular transformer platform

Back to all references

The challenge: Development of a new transformer station concept to limit the lifting weight for the use of a bandwidth of smaller/mid-size installation vessels (crane capacity up to 2,500 t).

We continuously rely on state-of-the-art technology in our projects to achieve the best possible efficiency in energy generation and at the most reasonable costs for electricity production.

Sea Wind Management, in cooperation with JBO Ingenieure GmbH and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, S.A., has developed several concepts for transformer station platforms for the Baltic Eagle offshore project as part of its activity as the “Owner’s Engineer”. In addition to the main objective of designing a platform that can be installed with relatively small installation vessels, another task was to reconcile the technical and commercial requirements of the project and and the network operator 50Hertz. Two concepts were developed as part of the study: mother/daughter concept – closed design with module weight of 1,200 and 2,000 tonnes – Separate OTM® Open design with 2×2 OTM®s with a module weight of 800 tonnes each.
